Lumina Academy is located in El Puerto de Santa María, in the beautiful Cádiz region of southern Spain.

Set between the Atlantic Ocean, natural parks, and historic Andalusian towns, this region offers a unique environment where children can grow close to nature while experiencing a rich cultural heritage. With over 300 days of sunshine each year and a strong tradition of community life, El Puerto provides an ideal setting for children to learn, explore, and flourish.

At Lumina Academy we combine this inspiring environment with a bilingual English–Spanish education inspired by Waldorf pedagogy, nurturing creativity, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning in children aged 3–12.

The right Principles for life

At Lumina Academy, children learn in a bilingual English–Spanish environment that thoughtfully integrates the strengths of several respected educational traditions. Rather than limiting ourselves to a single philosophy, we draw on the most effective elements of Waldorf education, Montessori learning, Reggio Emilia inspiration, and Anglo-Saxon inquiry-based approaches to support the full development of each child.

In the early years, our core academic rhythm is inspired by Waldorf pedagogy, which nurtures the intellectual, emotional, and creative development of the child. Through storytelling, artistic activities, movement, music, and practical handwork—such as working with yarn and natural materials—children strengthen fine motor skills, imagination, concentration, and a deep emotional connection to learning.

Alongside this foundation, we incorporate selected Montessori materials and games, particularly in early mathematics and practical life activities. Hands-on tools help children explore concepts such as counting, patterns, and sequencing in a concrete and intuitive way. Montessori-inspired work periods also allow children moments of independent exploration and choice, supporting the development of confidence, responsibility, and intrinsic motivation.

Our classrooms are also influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach, which values the child as a capable and curious learner. Children are encouraged to express their ideas through many “languages”—drawing, building, storytelling, movement, and collaborative projects. Teachers observe carefully and guide learning experiences that emerge from children’s interests, fostering creativity, communication, and deep engagement.

As students grow older, we gradually introduce elements of the Anglo-Saxon educational tradition, including discussion-based learning, collaborative group projects, and problem-solving activities. These experiences help children develop analytical thinking, teamwork, and the ability to present and defend their ideas—skills that prepare them for further study and the modern world.

By thoughtfully weaving together these complementary approaches, Lumina Academy creates a balanced and dynamic learning environment. Our aim is to nurture creative thinkers, confident learners, and compassionate individuals who develop not only strong academic foundations but also curiosity, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.

Thriving beyond Education

Our vision extends beyond the classroom—creating a vibrant community where families, educators, and students come together to foster lifelong connections, celebrate cultural diversity, and support one another in the journey of holistic learning.

Lumina Academy is not only a school, but a community hub for learning and exchange. We welcome families from different backgrounds and cultures, creating an environment where children grow with a global perspective and a deep appreciation for diversity.

As part of this vision, Lumina is developing a worldschooling hub—a place where travelling families, international educators, and local students can connect, learn, and share experiences. Through workshops, collaborative projects, cultural exchanges, and short-term learning opportunities, we aim to create a dynamic environment where education is enriched by global perspectives.

This approach allows children to experience learning as something living and interconnected, where knowledge is shaped not only in the classroom but through encounters with people, cultures, and ideas from around the world.

By becoming a hub for collaboration, creativity, and global learning, Lumina seeks to positively impact not only its students but the wider community for generations to come.
